Collector Landfall Pinot Meunier 2021

A$36.55

Blend
Pinot Meunier (100%)

Season
Dry spring weather preceded a relatively hot and dry summer. The long, warm ripening in Autumn resulted in disease-free fruit of the highest quality.

Viticulture
Courabyra vineyard sits on a west facing slope on deep weathered granite soils near Tumbarumba, at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.  Pinot Meunier is grown on a sloping block with East-West row orientation.  The vines are cane-pruned and vertically shoot-positioned, with every leaf carefully placed!

Winemaking
Pristine grapes were hand harvested in mid-March.  Approximately 25% whole-bunches were included in the ferment which was worked mainly with pigeage.  After pressing, the wine underwent the malolactic fementation in a mix of new and older Allier barrels before bottling in June 2019.

Taste
The wine combines the freshness, fragrance and brightness of cool-grown Pinot Meunier with a lively, spicy and savoury palate.  The nose is delicately perfumed with light red currant and strawberry, soft smoky aromas, peppery spice notes and fresh thyme. Bright red fruit flavours burst from the mid-palate, which is framed by fresh acidity, complex spice and savoury, moreish tannins.
